In partnership with Energotest, our technical and engineering team works tirelessly to master the most advanced methods in order to improve our performance in the areas of energy efficiency and safety.
The Robert Green Plan
Although our trucks travel nearly 100 million kilometers a year, we have reduced our greenhouse gas emissions by 11,000 tons.
In 2007, we received Smartway certification, a symbol of excellence in energy efficiency and greenhouse gas emission reductions.
Here are some of the other measures we have taken to reduce our emissions, improve air quality, and lower our fuel consumption:
ACTION :Introduction of large truck trains in Quebec (1986) and Ontario (2009).
RESULT : A 45% reduction in fuel consumption
ACTION : Reduction in vehicle speed limit to 100 km/h (1996).
RESULT :A 2% reduction in fuel consumption.
ACTION : Installation of aerodynamic skirts on our fleet.
RESULT :A 7.4% fuel savings at 100 km/h (Energotest 2008).
ACTION :Reduction in idling time: truck engines are programmed to stop after idling for five minutes.
RESULT : A 95% reduction in idling time.
ACTION : Use of a generator rather than the engine to air condition the cab.
RESULT : 1 L/hour for the generator versus 4L/hour for the engine at idle speed
ACTION :Training in energy efficiency management and installation of the ISAAC system
RESULT : Improved driving and 8% fuel savings
Our mechanics also measure our trucks’ fuel consumption every week.
